
Carol Maynard
Carol Maynard, a National Board Certified Teacher, received the Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Converse College in 2003. Her primary and secondary school education was in Spartanburg County School District 7, where she participated in the nationally-acclaimed orchestra program. She began playing violin at the age of 3, and flute at the age of 11.
Ms. Maynard is currently in her 22nd year as the Director of Orchestras at LaVilla School of the Arts in Jacksonville, FL, where she was named Teacher of the Year for the 2015-2016 school year. Her orchestras have consistently received Superior ratings at the Florida Orchestra Association’s Concert Music Performance Assessments, and first-place finishes at various competitions across the southeast.
As an adjudicator and clinician, Ms. Maynard is regularly invited to conduct All-County Orchestras around the state of Florida, and also in Kentucky. She is frequently asked to adjudicate MPA events in FL and GA. In addition, she has participated in panel discussions and clinic presentations on best teaching practices at both the Florida Music Education Association and Florida Orchestra Association state conferences.
Ms. Maynard’s professional performance experience includes solo and orchestral engagements on both violin and flute. Her professional affiliations include National Association for Music Education, Florida Orchestra Association, Florida Music Education Association, and American String Teachers Association. She has served on both the Executive Board and the Executive Committee of the Florida Orchestra Association, and has also served on the Board for the Florida School Music Association. She has three sons, ages 20, 13, and 2, a violinist, cellist, and (most likely) bassist in training.

Yelena Sakara Dumais
The music community in Jacksonville is a tight-knit community and Yelena Dumas is proud to have been an active participant in it since starting her music education. A LaVilla, Douglas Anderson, and Jacksonville University alum; the local music scene has played a large part in the path that has led to being a part of the LaVilla Orchestra as a co-director with Carol Maynard.
Music has always been a part of life for Mrs. Dumais. After receiving a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Jacksonville University in 2016, she has remained active as a performer and educator.
Mrs. Dumais hopes to instill the love, dedication, and discipline of music to all of her students. Whether they choose to become a part of our flourishing community here or take the lessons with them and apply them to anything they set their minds to.
